Why make face masks yourself?
Face masks can pamper your own skin, moisturize it and even prevent blemished and dry skin. Although there are already face masks for every skin type to buy, the trend is to make your own face masks. Not only do you have suitable ingredients already in the house if necessary, but occasionally you also find pleasure in mixing your own care products together. Depending on whether you suffer from oily, dry, irritated, blemished or even redness-prone skin – there are plenty of ingredients that can ideally care for the needs of your skin.
What should be considered when making a face mask yourself?
Basically, the ingredients used should always be fresh or freshly prepared. Almost any fruit or vegetable is suitable for DIY face masks; as well as eggs, curd cheese (curd) or yogurt.
Mature and dry skin: Use rather oily products, such as ripe bananas and avocados.
Normal and immature skin: cucumbers or tomatoes are popular because they can have a cleansing, clarifying effect.
If you make your own face mask, you should store it in the refrigerator for no longer than 24 hours and preferably use it immediately. Before applying, cleanse your skin and remove any makeup.
Consider skin care
First of all, it should be emphasized that a do-it-yourself face mask can penetrate the pores and work best when the skin is cleansed and freed from dander. One after the beforehand is therefore worthwhile. Equally important for skin care is the day cream, which you should also apply after each face mask application as usual, because to make and apply a face mask yourself, of course, does not replace a face cream, but only serves as additional care.
Make your own face mask: Application tips
- If you have sensitive skin, you should test any ingredients or face masks you make yourself on a small area of skin beforehand. Natural ingredients can cause allergies or irritation if the skin is sensitive.
- Lips and eye area are generally left out when applying a face mask – if you still want to pamper your lips, you can spread some honey on them and let it take effect.
- Always make your own face mask fresh and store it in the refrigerator for no longer than 24 hours.
- Thicken mixture of face mask with oatmeal if it is too thin.
- The richer the food, the more intense the care for the skin.
- Clean face before applying the face mask and after rinsing it off, apply a good cream.
- You can make the face mask yourself once or twice a week to pamper your skin.
For a finer complexion
With large pores, the skin’s appearance can look uneven. In addition, large pores clog quickly, which can lead to blemished skin and pimples. You can make your own face mask to combat large pores:
Ingredients:
2 tbsp quark (curd cheese)
1 tsp lemon juice
Both are mixed and worn as a face mask for a good 15 minutes. The curd cools pleasantly, soothes and nourishes the face, while citric acid has a pore-tightening effect.
For softer skin
Does your skin feel chapped or rough? Then this DIY face mask might be right for you.
Ingredients:
1 cup of plain yogurt (the richer the better).
2 tsp honey
1 banana (optional)
Mix everything together and leave on for a good 15 to 20 minutes. Honey can have an anti-inflammatory effect and stimulate skin regeneration, while bananas can soften the skin and counteract premature aging.
For dry skin
For irritated and dry skin, a DIY face mask with chocolate can help.
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons of whipped cream
2 tablespoons oatmeal
1/3 cup dark cocoa powder
1/4 cup honey
Mix everything into a creamy paste and leave it on the skin for a good 15 minutes. Chocolate helps with dry skin and the honey can soothe and boost skin regeneration.
For a fresh complexion
If you want to wake up your skin and bring life to your own cheeks, you can make this face mask yourself.
Ingredients:
100 g papaya
1 tsp honey
1 egg yolk
1 tsp olive oil
1/2 avocado
Finely mash papaya and avocado when making your own face mask and add the rest. Wear as a mask for a good 15 to 20 minutes. You’re wondering: Why papaya? Papaya contains the enzyme papain, which gives freshness to the skin. Papain can help loosen skin flakes and stimulate skin renewal.
Tip: If you don’t have avocado and papaya at home, you can use 5 tsp of coffee grounds instead. Coffee stimulates blood circulation and can have an exfoliating effect when you remove the face mask by lightly rubbing it with warm water.
For firmer skin
If you make this face mask yourself, you can achieve great effect with only two ingredients.
Ingredients:
1/3 of a cucumber
1 to 2 tablespoons of quark (curd cheese).
Puree the cucumber and add the curd and leave for about 20 minutes. If you want to relax your eyes, you can also put two slices of cucumber on your eyelids while the DIY face mask takes effect. Cucumbers contain substances that have a tightening effect on the skin – such as vitamins, mucilage and sulfur.
For blemished skin and pimples
Even when fighting pimples, it is worth making a face mask yourself.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons of healing clay
warm water
Mix the healing clay with water until a thick paste is formed. Leave the mask on until it dries on the skin. Healing clay extracts oil and sebum from the skin, unclogging the pores in the skin. A classic in the application for pimples and blackheads.

FAQ
How can I make a face mask myself?
Basically, you can use anything you like, as long as the ingredients are fresh. Take yogurt or curd as a base. Especially suitable are avocados, honey or even cucumbers and eggs.
Are homemade face masks good?
Fresh ingredients on the skin – like other care products – can sometimes cause reactions, especially in sensitive skin types. However, apart from that, face masks moisturize the skin a lot and provide it with important nutrients. Homemade masks can pamper and protect the skin.
Is yogurt good as a face mask?
Yogurt works well as a base when you make your own face mask. Add one or two of your favorite ingredients and your face mask is ready. Yogurt has a cooling and soothing effect and also provides a lot of moisture – so of course it can also be used pure.
