The steam bath for the face – what does it actually do?
Steam is created when hot water evaporates. The skin reacts to the combination of heat and moisture by opening its pores and releasing dirt and excess sebum. A regularly performed facial steam bath can thus prevent pimples and other skin impurities and contribute a lot to clear skin. How does the steam bath for the face?
Preparations for the facial steam bath
Prepare a larger bowl, a towel, herbs or essential oils and bring a good liter of water to a boil. Pour this into the bowl and add the herbs or oil. Leave to infuse briefly so that the water can cool and the steam does not become too hot.
How long does a facial steam bath last?
When you are comfortable with the steam temperature, place the towel over your head and bend your face over the bowl at a distance of about 30 centimeters. The towel should prevent steam from escaping. A steam bath for the face lasts about five minutes. Close your eyes, calmly breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. After the facial steam bath, the facial skin is cleared with cool water, which contributes to a rosy complexion.
What else is there to consider with a steam bath?
A chamomile steam bath or one with other herbs – more on this in a moment – is a blessing for the face. However, you should not take more than one or two steam baths per week to protect the skin from possible dehydration. You should not take a steam bath at all if you have sunburn, inflammations or scars and fresh wounds on your face.
Facial steam bath for colds – does it actually help?
A cold, congested bronchial tubes, sore throat? A steam bath for the face can have a soothing effect on the symptoms. It is best to take a chamomile steam bath for about ten minutes or add essential oils such as eucalyptus, thyme oil or mountain pine to the water. The inhaled vapors moisten the mucous membranes, which is good for you. Anyway, you kill two birds with one stone: cure and beauty care.
