The story behind it:
Invented by Dresden baker Ferdinand Wilhelm Hanke in 1845, Russian Bread quickly became a local favorite. Inspired by a recipe he discovered during his apprenticeship in St. Petersburg, Hanke created playful alphabet-shaped cookies that charmed passersby in his bakery window. While the Russian “Bukwi” has faded into history, Russian Bread remains a beloved classic from Dresden to this day.
